Whats the best yet cheap sea salt (actually from the ocean) ?
But if you live near the beach would it be better to get water from there?

The best salts are mixes that are usually sold in large quantities at most pet & aquarium supply stores. People who keep saltwater aquariums need them to make saltwater for their tank. Those salts aren’t from the ocean; they’re from processing plants that make stuff that’s just as good as the cleanest ocean waters.

I won’t claim that any particular brand is any better than any other. I went on a behind-the-scenes tour of the PPG Aquarium in Pittsburgh a few months back and we were told by the tour guide that they use Instant Ocean (which is what I use on my reef tank), but good results have been reported with all available commerical salt mixes (Red Sea, Reef Crystals, Kent, etc.).

If you want the best it’s not going to be cheap, do your research first so you don’t end up killing it.

You cannot use table salt, as this can be deadly to the crabs. Use a salt mix from a pet store. Also, make sure you have fresh dechlorinated water for them to drink. They use the salt water only to bathe. Here is a link that you can read to help with choosing which brand you would like to buy: http://crabstreetjournal.com/xoops/modules/news/article.php?storyid=151&keywords=salt

    Good luck!
