I am looking to buy a fish aquarium. I have looked on craigslist, and found a nice tank that I want. The only problem is, is that it was a saltwater aquarium. Can I clean it and use it as a freshwater tank? Or will it kill my fish? If you need aquarium salt for some freshwater fish, will it be ok?
I just took the last remaining freshwater fish from my 55 gallon tank and moved them to a smaller tank since it was wasted space.. (I have had the fish for a few years now and when they started dying – I didn’t replace them)
I would now like to set up a saltwater system in my 55 gallon tank and I have most of the supplies I need except for a good filter (I was using a regent brand hang on filter that came with my tank when I bought it)
So what is the best filter in your opinion and why?
So, I decided to move up from freshwater fish to saltwater. I have a 35 gallon tank, and that’s about all I have.
I know i need a heater, and substrates, a filter, seasalt water mix, and a hydrometer.
What else would i need?
Also, the fish I would like would be a clown fish.

I am considering starting a large aquarium (probably 60-100 gallon) and I’m not sure if I should stick to freshwater fish (I have sufficient experience with them) or start a saltwater aquarium (no experience whatsoever). I realize there will be enormous amount of research to be done before I even get started, but before I get to reading, I want to decide if it’s worth it for me time-wise to even consider it. So I’m asking people who had experience with both–how much more time-consuming is it to care for saltwater aquarium in comparison to a freshwater one?

I have a freshwater aquarium with 1 tsp added aquarium salt for freshwater fish. My school is giving away fish that is in a saltwater aquarium. Is it ok if I add those fish to my aquarium?
