  2. u dont have to have all this stuff do you to have a saltwater aquarium

  3. wow i dont know if i could get everything with 200 dollars then i already have a 30 gallon tank but nothing else yet could i get it with 200 dollars

  4. How do you get the water to go from your pvc pipeing to your sump?? Is it like a suctioning trick?

  5. i prefer fresh water, its much more easier to take care. anyway thx for the vid upload, i have learn alot..

  6. bioballs is old style set-up it actually generate more nitrate spike if you dont clean then them occationaly. I dont use them anymore i find my tank now more stable without it.

  7. nice tank,,,, but if i was you i drill that corner and put those coupling, you can get those overflow coupling any fish store like $2/4 each ….its gonna looks 10001% better……

  8. Yeah I am wondering the same thing. i am trying to eliminate cutting an overflow drain into the side of the tank.

  9. @poisenmushrooms4u Well no, you don’t “have to have” all this stuff, but it sure helps a great deal. Aside from your main display tank you should have

-quarantine tank – this is a must have for marine aquariums. This will prevent disease/ spread of disease from new fish and if you have a fish that gets ill while already in your tank. It is suggested that you have your fish/inverts in the Q tank for about 2 weeks before adding them to the main display tank.

-a sump is your filtering system. If you don’t have a hang-on filter, this will take it’s place. I would recommend unless you have under a 20 gallon tank that you should have a sump instead of or in addition to your hang-on filter. The sump should have mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration. For these you can use foam, filter pads, bioballs, and carbon. You should also have your protein skimmer and then your return pump, leading back up to the aquarium.

Baffles should be built b/w each section of the sump. Filtration –> Skimmer –> Return Pump. These will eliminate micro-bubbles.

-A refugium is basically an area for beneficial bacterial growth, making for a better biological system. These can be hang-on, in tank, or in-sump. You can buy these manufactured or DIY, which is definitely the better rout.

  12. Add more live rock to both sump & tank, this helps with biological filtration.
